Unaccompanied minors
General requirements
For a child to fly alone, without an accompanying adult,
s/he must:
- Be at least 5 years of age
- Pay an escort service charge (service required through
age 12; optional ages 13-17):
- US $75 each way for international flights
- US $30 each way for domestic flights
Important:
- A responsible adult must accompany the minor to the
airport and give the following information: name, address, telephone
number, and government-issued photo ID number for both the person handing
over the minor at the point of origin and the person receiving the minor
at the destination.
- Immigration officials for both the country of origin
and destination should be consulted regarding any documents or authorizations
required for the minor to enter or leave the respective countries. Unaccompanied
minors will not be boarded unless all requirements have been met.
Please note:
- Escort services are not available for domestic flights
or on which there are no flight attendants.
Special requirements for Brazilian
Minors
Brazilian minors flying out of Brazil must present a
judicial authorization issued by the Court of Minors. If traveling with
only one parent, at the airport that parent must present written authorization
signed by both parents with signatures matching those registered in an
official government document.
The following documents are required to obtain travel
authorization from the Court of Minors:
- Proof of residency
- Minor's passport
- Copies of pages 1, 2 and 3 of the minor's passport
- The original and one copy of each parent's identity
document and tax registration card ("Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas"
or "CPF")
